Internet Yami-Ichi — from the Japanese for “Internet Black Market,” also evoking meanings such as “sickness” and “addiction” — is a flea market where people consumed by the Internet gather to trade Internet-related objects in physical space.

In this peculiar marketplace, visitors wander among booths displaying the ingenious, the absurd, and the utterly useless, in an ironic and playful atmosphere that recalls the spirit of the early Internet era.

Created by the collective IDPW (led by artist duo EXONEMO) — described as “a secret society on the Internet that goes back more than 100 years” — Internet Yami-Ichi was first held in Tokyo in 2012. Since then, it has taken place in numerous cities worldwide, including New York, Seoul, Moscow, Madrid, and Berlin.

S()fia Braga curated Internet Yami-Ichi at Ars Electronica Festival, as well as its first Italian edition in Bologna at DAS – Dispositivo Arti Sperimentali.
